First words are daunting. They’re the beginning, what hooks (or doesn’t hook) the reader. The cursor blinks before an expanse of white. It’s just a combination of 1’s and 0’s, but it’s daunting. It’s especially intimidating for an entirely blank blog. What should I say? What kind of writer am I going to be? Will people like what I have to say? What if I publish something I regret later?
Making one’s way as an academic is tough; your career depends on your intellectual reputation. Adding a blog to the mix presents infinite potential for missteps. However, in today’s world–and today’s academic job market–it is essential to have an online presence.
